WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY.

Physiotherapy is a primary care, client-focused health profession dedicated to :

  • Improving and maintaining full functional movement and physical performance.
  • Preventing and managing pain, physical impairments and limits to participation.
  • Promoting fitness and health.

WHAT DO PHYSIOTHERAPISTS DO.

Physiotherapists provide assessment, treatment and education for a wide range of health problems to ensure you make the most of your lifestyle, activity or sport.

Physiotherapists can also advise you on ways to prevent potential problems from occurring before they arise.

PHYSIOTHERAPY - HOW IT WORKS.

Physiotherapy involves using a variety of techniques to help your muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and bones work to their full potential.

Fundamental to a physiotherapists approach is an appreciation of your role in your own care.

They are skilled in providing injury treatment, preventative advice, rehadilitation and will develop a full treatment plan to suit your needs.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT.

WHO WILL I SEE AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

You will see George Johnson, a Chartered and registered Physiotherapist throughout you care.

HOW QUALIFIED IS HE?

He is a fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapist. To become chartered a Physiotherapist must have studied for at least 3 years and have achieved the high standard required to become a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapist (MCSP).   Additionally, every Chartered Physiotherapist must be registered with the Health Professions Council ( HPC), who act as a regulatory body for the profession. Added to this George is also a full member of the Society of Sports Therapy ( MSST), which is another highly regonised professional organisation.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

George will ask you some questions about your symtoms. Then, with your consent, he may examine your joints and muscles. During the appointment, you may be asked to remove some items of clothing so that George can look at how you move and your range of movement (if possible shorts can be worn and a chaperon can always be with you). Your privacy and dignity will always be respected. At the end of the examination, George will explain what he has found, openly and honestly. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions. You are invited to be fully involved in any decisions about your treatment. The need for further appointments   ( if any) will be discussed, and any treatment that is offered will be explained, including any benefits or risks. It is your body and you have the right to decline physiotherapy treatment at any stage without affecting your future care.

WHAT RECORDS ARE KEPT?

Information that you give and any treatment or advice that is given at your appointment will be written in your physio records. To meet legal requirments, these records are kept secure for 8 years or until a patients 25th birthday, whichever is longer.
